Barrier of early initiation of breastfeeding among postnatal mothers

Introduction: Early initiation of breastfeeding within one hour birth decreases infant morbidity and mortality, it helps promote exclusive breastfeeding. Despite the benefits early breastfeeding, practice is far from adequate. We aim to identify barriers among postnatal mothers.
 Method: A cross-sectional analytical study was carried out ward Manipal Teaching Hospital 1 June 30 August 2017. Consecutive sampling used. Ethical permission obtained. Data collected through face-to-face interviews using a semi-structured questionnaire, including demographics mother infant, time feeding. SPSS used for descriptive analysis demographics, association factors analyzed draw inference.
 Result: Out 244 mothers, done by 19.7%, 82.4% provided prelacteal feeds formula. Delayed associated with caesarean section (OR: 21.99; 95% CI 5.55-87.03), feeding 7.49; 2.72-20.66), lack antenatal checkup visit 7.38; 2.3-23.73).
 Conclusion: low (19.7%) in identified as delivery, feeding, visits.
